New Life

It has been a month now since the angel left us.

For years, we struggled to survive, all of us slowly dying from a mysterious malady. Those who couldn’t cope with their illness used whatever means possible to forget.

Drugs, murder, endless shopping sprees, and so many other perverted things. None of them helped. We still lived on. When death finally came, it was agonizing, slow, and painful. No matter who you were or how much stuff you had, death was always the same.

We couldn’t live, and we couldn’t die. We were trapped in a living death. No, we weren’t zombies. We were human and we lived normal lives, but inside, we were always dying. Slowly. Painfully.

Then the angel came. He stayed for one week, but that was all it took for him to tell us the cure. He didn’t tell it to us right away. I think he was testing us to find out if anyone would be willing to accept the cure.

The cure was a bitter pill to swallow and many refused to take it, but some—including me—did. We had the choice to linger on in a living death until our painful end or accept the Master’s free gift. Death would still come, but that death would be painless and lead to the ultimate life. The Master’s cure required simply accepting His help, His gift, His service, His lordship over our lives.

Too many chose death. The cure had too high a cost for them. Yes, it was free, but you had to accept it and let the Master change you in order for it to work. That was the only true way to live.

I am one of the few who accepted the Master’s cure. I accepted it and now I am a new man with a new life. Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
